April 26, Animal, Part III

I liked today’s prompt and kept finding reasons to write another poem. This time, a news article caught my attention:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/25/puppy-escapes-crate-at-laguardia_n_1453345.html (It seems a Rhodesian Ridgeback pup escaped her crate at LaGuardia…)

Byrdie on the loose - Havoc Ensues

LaGuardia Surprise

It’s a bird! it’s a plane!
No wait! It’s Byrdie
on the runway
stopping traffic
for the most innocent
of reasons.

He wanted to play.

When his owner
got off her Memphis-
bound plane
and called him
though,
flights were able
to continue
on their merry way.

I hope they smiled
rather than remaining
(doggedly)
grouchy
because of the delay.
