Spring Must be on the Way


There is a bird perched right outside
the glass. I am puzzled at first;
he’s tilting his head this way and
that, first one shiny black eye pre-
sented, and then the other. At
last I see he is primping. Look-
ing at his own reflection in
the glass, noticing what a fine
fellow he is. And then, looking
down the hall, I must laugh. There, on
this side of the window, my co-
worker is tying his tie in
the glass, tilting his head just so
and looking so much like the bird.
