A YMCA Cellar in Flanders

Stop Here

Just stop here, boys, and take a break.
We know you’re tired, barely awake,
Your shattered soul somehow intact,
Your gaze is glazed, almost abstract.
Sit down and rest, some supper take.

We’ll make you something nice, some cake.
We know you’re tired, you’re weak, you ache.
We want to feed you, interact.
Just stop here, boys.

Here, have some beer, your thirst to slake.
We won’t stare if you cry and shake.
It’s safe in here, secure, in fact,
Relax and laugh, all fear distract.
It’s all a dream and soon you’ll wake
Just stop here, boys.

Written for Quickly, April poem-a-day.
