Settled

broken toys

Sentiment vs. Reality

Sentimental, really,
to pack up every last toy,
every last card of a
forgotten game,
pogs and wizard wands
and school papers and
awards for fine
attendance.

But it is not for me
to decide which of these
relics of childhood
are important and
which are dross.

And I will not weep
because, the boy
has a car now.
Is in the army
defending his country.
Is living his life.
Has moved on
as he should.

And so I will use this room
to sew and create
new beauty and make
friends happy.

All will be well.
And so, now,
that’s settled.
