I had a sad, traumatic experience as a child and, far too old, it seemed to my mother, went back to my blankie. As old as I was, I clearly remember the trauma of it “disappearing” one day… So, this is to say, let your babies keep them as long as they need them. (Even if they go to college with them, it’s okay, I promise.)
Oh, the Blankie. Children all love theirs.
They do finally outgrow them, though.
How they comfort away a child’s cares.
Oh, the Blankie. Our children loved theirs.
No matter ragged and tattery tears,
Troubles fade, terrors retreat, fears flow.
My Blankie, I loved, as they loved theirs.
We finally do outgrow them, though.
