Summer Evening by Edward Hopper

Summer Evening by Edward Hopper

I feel too old for this,
so let’s pretend it’s not that scene
where the two of us wonder if
there will be a kiss goodnight
until eventually, one of us just
goes inside, or one of us just
leaves, or one of us reaches
tentatively for the other at
just the wrong moment,
or, wonder of wonders,
we reach for each other
in a perfect glorious
instant, lips haltingly
grazing, touching,
moving closer,
holding on for
warm, electric,
wondrous
kiss.
