Love/Anti-love

At last, the two-for Tuesday prompt I have been expecting and waiting for. We get this one every year. This year, as a twist, I’ve challenged myself to pair each prompt with a tarot card. The first 22 days were the Major Arcana, and since the 23rd I’ve been drawing a random card. The card today was the Eight of Cups, a card about change and transition, departure, and upon reversal, return.

So the poem’s topic today will be about Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester. I did a simple triolet that barely brushes the surface of this novel—spoilers ahead, lol, if that is a thing for books over 100 years old.

8 of Cups - Secret Tarot
Jane Eyre
Love/Anti-love

She loved him too well for the man he was
He claimed her though he had no right to her
Even when things that he said gave her pause
She loved him too well for the man he was
He was a man wed, she fled with good cause
but cleaved to his side as a widower
She loved him too well for the man he was
He claimed her though he had no right to her
