Elemental Poetry

Ah, what a challenge today – day 5 of the poem-a-day challenge.

To write a poem about a chemical reaction and to use at least one of the elements on the periodic table as an inspiration.

What is your oxygen? Do leave a comment and tell me.

Oxygen

a necessity for life,
a certain amount required
at a minimum,
and so one imagines
when one receives a bare minimum
consistently

this
is all there is:

e-x-i-s-t-e-n-c-e
no more

mere
s-u-r-v-i-v-a-l
should be
enough

right?

strange how the world
turns upside-down
when the gift of rarified air
is presented

one breathes deeply,
understanding at last
what was missing
all
along
